Canadian Heroines of Our History
About hundreds of years ago, women were not considered to be human. In fact, we were just known to get married, and reproduce children in society. Not until years later, a handful of women emerged from society, and had made amends to the way women were living.
Around the 1800's, the movement of feminism had begun. People believed that these women who are fighting for the rights for equality, were extremists and radical. Even the some of the women believed that they way they live is how women should be. During these times, arrests happened because the society didn't want to amends the lives of the women, and rather the women be confined with what the social strandards of women should be.
Compare to today from back then women had extremely had worked hard to be what we are today, example of that is woman named Maude Abbot. She was one of the first women to gradute from McGill University with a medical degree, and entered into the health industry. Because of her, this allowed women to enter into the medical world dispite of sex or gender. Anyone can be a doctor whether there a man or a woman.
How the right to poltics or enter into the world of politics. Women like Irene Parlby, she was the first to be a judge in the Parliament of Canada, during that time, women were not to enter into law, cause they weren't considered human beings.
Because of the her action for women to enable to enter into the Politics and Law, women now today can become judges.
Millions of rights were fought for women then, now today women are able to do the same thing that men are able to do without any discrimination of any sort. Although there are some instances that women are discriminated, there are still a large portion of the world accepting women as an equal indivdual as men.
I would recommend this book to anyone to read, especially girls and women. Acknowledge the amends of our society that women went through to be who they are today.
